Heating Oil Tanks

Heating Oil Tank Services

Is your oil tank due for a replacement? We have you covered!

Heating oil is both incredibly effective at providing robust heat in all weather conditions and also incredibly safe. Liquid heating oil will not combust on its own. Still, you need to have a secure, well-maintained oil tank to prevent potentially costly fuel spills.

The Harvey’s team knows heating oil tanks inside and out. When it’s time for a new tank, we offer both steel and fibreglass models. We’re proud to serve households in Greater St. John’s area, Mount Pearl, Torbay and other communities throughout the Avalon Peninsula.

How is your current oil tank doing?

Heating oil tanks are assigned a useable lifetime under Newfoundland and Labrador’s Heating Oil Storage Tank (HOST) regulations, which can range from 10 to 50 years, depending on the tank’s material, construction and location. That said, maintenance issues can develop well before a tank reaches the end of its assigned lifetime. Sludge accumulation and internal corrosion, most often caused by condensation inside the tank, are among the leading causes of tank failure — and neither is visible without a closer look.

While formal re-inspection is scheduled at the call of the HOST administrator — and is required whenever a tank is being replaced or re-registered — homeowners shouldn’t wait for that call to keep an eye on their own tank. We recommend inspecting your tank several times a year for these warning signs:

  • Rust or dents on the tank body
  • Oil stains or puddles near the base of the tank
  • Wet spots or sweating on the exterior
  • Bubbling or peeling paint
  • Pinhole leaks
  • Instability or deterioration in the tank’s legs
  • Damaged or malfunctioning components, including the vent alarm, the fuel gauge or the oil lines

If you notice any of these issues, don’t wait — contact Harvey’s to have your tank assessed. Catching a problem early can prevent a costly and environmentally damaging fuel leak.

Our team stays current on the HOST regulations and the CSA-B139 installation code that govern heating oil tanks across the province, so you can count on us to keep your system safe, properly registered and fully in compliance.

Steel oil tanks sized to your particular home needs

When the time comes to replace your heating oil tank, we have fantastic modern options.

Today’s steel heating oil tanks are designed and engineered to be secure, compact and virtually leak-proof. We install modern double-bottom models that allow for early leak detection and minimize damage to the most vulnerable parts of the tank. They are finished with a electrostatic powder-coated exterior for enhanced durability and corrosion protection. With one of our steel oil tanks, you’ll have maximum peace of mind!

Consider a top-rated fibreglass tank

Durable, fire-resistant, noncorrosive, liquid-tight and weatherproof, Harvey’s fibreglass heating oil tanks give you peace of mind. Our fibreglass tanks have a government-approved lifespan of 50 years and are the preferred choice of insurance companies.

At Harvey’s, we get both fibreglass and steel heating oil tanks from Granby Industries. These tanks are fully compliant with industry standards for safety and long life.
